Introduction

Slim Down with Awake Liposuction

We’re often told that diet and exercise are the ideal pathways to our preferred body type… but the reality is that this isn’t always the case. Sometimes, stubborn pockets of fat simply won’t respond to healthy eating and regular exercise. If this sounds like your experience, awake liposuction may be an ideal procedure option for you.

This procedure is an ideal way to achieve your body-contouring goals and is one of the many treatment options we offer at our Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Chandler locations. To learn more about how awake liposuction can benefit you, reach out to Elite Plastic Surgery and schedule your initial consultation today.

What is Awake Liposuction?

Awake liposuction is a faster, safer, lower-cost way for you to benefit from 360 Liposuction. It is performed by making small incisions and infusing a special solution, called a “tumescent solution,” into the treatment area. This solution combines saline with lidocaine (a pain reliever) and epinephrine to reduce bleeding/bruising.

What Does the Procedure Treat?

The same amount of fat can be removed with awake liposuction as with traditional liposuction. Awake liposuction is not ideal, however, for patients with a low pain tolerance or an anxiety disorder. Even if you have multiple problem areas or an extremely high volume of fat in any of these areas, awake liposuction is still an option, though your surgery may have to be staged. During your consultation, Dr. Rozbeh Torabi and Dr. Radbeh Torabi will help you explore the benefits of awake versus traditional liposuction. Awake liposuction can be used on stubborn areas like the following:

  • Double Chin
  • Muffin top
  • Abdominal apron
  • Back bra rolls
  • Waist
  • Hips
  • Thighs
  • Other fatty excess areas

Am I a Good Candidate for Awake Liposuction?

The best candidates for this type of liposuction are healthy individuals who are not achieving optimal body-contouring results from traditional weight-loss measures. There will be no general anesthesia during your awake liposuction procedure.

Benefits of Awake Liposuction

Awake liposuction offers a range of benefits that set it apart as a cutting-edge body-sculpting option. Advantages include:

  • Performed under local anesthesia
  • No grogginess or nausea
  • Reduced recovery time
  • Minimal swelling or bruising
  • Increased comfort and peace of mind
  • Natural-looking changes
  • Patients can see improvements quickly

What Happens During the Procedure?

During awake liposuction, a cannula is used to perform suction-assisted aspiration on the area, contouring the body and removing unwanted fat. Awake tumescent liposuction is ideal for large-volume liposuction.

Your surgeon will use a variety of techniques to keep you calm and comfortable during your procedure, while you remain fully awake and in control of your senses. A cannula will be inserted through multiple small incisions (which will be barely noticeable after the procedure) to access stubborn fatty areas, after these sites have been numbed with a tumescent solution. Your body will experience a gentle back-and-forth motion as the doctor removes fat and contours your body. The process takes about 1 to 4 hours to complete.

What to Expect During Your Consultation for Awake Liposuction

Your initial consultation with Dr. Rozbeh Torabi and Dr. Radbeh Torabi in Scottsdale, Phoenix, or Chandler includes a detailed medical review and physical assessment to determine whether awake liposuction is the right option to achieve your goals safely. The doctors will answer your questions, explain the techniques they plan to use, and relate details regarding the risks, downtime, costs, and potential benefits of awake liposuction. Once you feel confident moving forward, our team will book your appointment at a convenient time that works with your schedule.

Recovery and Results

Your Guide to Post-Awake Liposuction

Recovery after awake liposuction is usually faster and more seamless than with conventional liposuction techniques. For this reason, the procedure is often called “lunchtime lipo.” After your treatment, you may experience mild swelling, soreness, and bruising that may last several days. Most patients in Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Chandler find they can resume work within the first week of healing. You will be fitted with a compression garment to help maintain your newly sculpted contours as you recover. Follow the instructions from Dr. Rozbeh Torabi and Dr. Radbeh Torabi, and attend your scheduled follow-up visits for the best results. The benefits of your treatment will emerge gradually over the coming week as the residual swelling resolves.
