What Happens During the Procedure?
A Brazilian butt lift is usually performed as an outpatient surgery in about two hours under general anesthesia. The procedure may take longer, depending on the number of donor sites used and the number of injections needed to achieve the desired look. After the lifting procedure, you should expect swelling and bruising in the buttocks and the liposuction area(s).
You may have difficulty sitting and may not be able to do so until the swelling has subsided comfortably. Afterwards, your buttocks should look and feel natural. The extra fat from liposuction may be saved and used at the first follow-up appointment to help fill in any unevenness and add smoothness. It will take approximately three months to see the final results. Liposuction is a safe procedure, and most Brazilian Butt Lift patients do not experience any significant complications.
Fat grafting may cause swelling, bruising, scarring, nerve compression, or infection if adequate care is not taken during the procedure. An embolism can occur when fat is dislodged and enters a blood vessel, with signs of pulmonary embolism, including shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. This is why it is necessary to undergo such surgery from a board-certified plastic surgeon.
