Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery (or blepharoplasty) is a surgical procedure that provides patients with both cosmetic and functional benefits by addressing drooping or sagging in the upper or lower eyelids.

Introduction

Rejuvenate the Windows to Your Soul

Drooping eyelids can result from the natural aging process or be caused by one’s genetic makeup. Biologically, they are among the most prominent signs of aging, along with neck wrinkles.1 Whatever the cause, the result is often the same: Drooping eyelids create a tired, somewhat aged appearance, and many patients visit Elite Plastic Surgery seeking a way to ensure their face communicates the youthful vibrancy they feel inside. This is where eyelid surgery can help.

What is Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid surgery can enhance your eyes—and your overall facial harmony—by creating a more attractive, youthful look while also improving vision if it’s been limited by sagging or drooping skin. By removing excess fatty tissue and addressing lax skin, eyelid surgery smooths fine lines, reduces wrinkles, and generally leaves you with a fresher look.

Eyelid surgery is one of the many facial plastic surgery procedures we offer, along with a full suite of advanced med spa and premium wellness services. At Elite Plastic Surgery, we aim to transform our patients’ looks and enhance their lives, offering a selection of treatment options to help you take your well-being to the next level. Your Eyelid Surgery Options

Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper eyelid, lower eyelid, or both. In either case, the procedure is ideal for addressing excess, loose, or sagging skin around the eyes, which can impair vision and make a patient look and/or feel uncomfortable. Blepharoplasty surgery can also help you by correcting minor wrinkles and folds around the eyes, enhancing your appearance, and creating a more youthful look.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

When performing surgery on the upper eyelid, Dr. Rozbeh, Dr. Radbeh, or Dr. Ramyar Torabi will carefully make incisions in the natural creases of your eyelids and the expression lines at the corner of the eyes so that there will be no visible scarring left over once the surgery is complete.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Lower eyelid surgery involves incisions made just below the eyelash line, which run along the natural folds of the eye. This will render any scarring invisible. If only fat is to be removed, the incisions are made on the inner side of the lower eyelid.

Am I a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?

Patients should be in good health and free of serious medical conditions to be considered candidates for upper or lower eyelid surgery. They must meet specific conditions, such as sagging skin, excess fat, upper eyelid deformities, eye bags, or puffy eyes, to qualify for the cosmetic procedure. Good candidates for eyelid surgery are those who experience:

  • Drooping eyelids
  • Bags or fat deposits under the eyes
  • Loose skin and wrinkles on the upper eyelid
  • Impaired vision due to hanging skin on the upper eyelid
  • Deformities or defects of the eyelid
  • A need to reinforce the periorbital tendons

All genders can benefit from this procedure. Studies have shown that eyelid surgery is almost as common for men as it is for women, for various reasons.2 If you’re not sure whether you’re a suitable candidate, consider speaking with our team, who can best guide you on which procedure is right for you.

Benefits of Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery offers a combination of both cosmetic refinement and functional improvement that few facial procedures can match. By removing excess skin and fat from the upper and/or lower eyelids, blepharoplasty restores a more open, alert appearance while softening heaviness around the eyes that can make patients look tired or aged. A good majority of patients also experience improved peripheral vision when sagging upper eyelid skin is corrected, making the procedure as practical as it is aesthetic.

Beyond visual improvement, eyelid surgery can enhance overall facial balance by making the eyes appear brighter, smoother, and more proportionate to the rest of the face. Fine lines and puffiness are reduced, under-eye bags are less pronounced, and makeup applies more smoothly once excess skin is addressed.

What Happens During the Procedure?

In most cases, local anesthesia can be used for either upper or lower eyelid surgery. Before your surgery, however, your surgeon may advise intravenous sedation and will be sure to discuss the details of your procedure with you at length. Our goal is to ensure your total peace of mind, and we make sure that every step of your journey with us is tailored to your comfort.

Most blepharoplasty procedures take between one and two hours to complete, depending on the extent of your personalized surgical plan. Once Dr. Rozbeh, Dr. Radbeh, or Dr. Ramyar Torabi has removed excess fat and corrected sagging or drooping skin, he will carefully close the incisions. At this point, you’ll be moved to our recovery area before you return home to begin the healing process.

What to Expect During Your Consultation for Eyelid Surgery

This consultation will be both informative and collaborative. Your surgeon will carefully evaluate your eyelid anatomy, skin quality, muscle tone, and fat distribution while also discussing any functional concerns, such as obstructed vision or eye strain. You’ll have the opportunity to talk openly about what bothers you most and what kind of result feels right for your face.

Your surgeon will explain whether upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or a combination approach is best suited to your goals. You’ll also review incision placement, anesthesia options, recovery expectations, and potential risks so you can make a confident, well-informed decision. This consultation is as much about education and trust as it is about planning the surgery itself.

Recovery & Healing

Your Guide to Post-Eyelid Surgery Care

Before your surgery, your surgeon will ensure you receive detailed aftercare instructions and a recovery timeline that outlines the process. After four to five days, you’ll visit our clinic for suture removal. You’ll likely experience swelling and bruising that may last up to two weeks, and we’ll ensure you have everything you need to remain as comfortable as possible while you heal.

We typically advise avoiding eye makeup, direct sunlight, and intense or strenuous activities for at least three to four weeks after your surgery. You’ll be provided with protective sunglasses that will need to be worn for four weeks, along with eyedrops and medications that your surgeon will prescribe. Any abnormal tearing, numbness, photosensitivity, double vision, or bruising will subside after about one week.

Most patients report their healing is complete after about four weeks. You’ll likely be able to return to work and other normal activities after about one week, but you’ll need to avoid activities such as swimming and sudden eye movements for three to four weeks. We also recommend keeping your head elevated for the first several days to help reduce swelling and bruising.

How Much Does an Eyelid Surgery Cost in Phoenix and Chandler, AZ?

The cost of eyelid surgery in Chandler and Phoenix varies on a case-by-case basis based on several factors, including whether the procedure is performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Surgical complexity, anesthesia requirements, and whether blepharoplasty is combined with another facial procedure can also affect the total price. Because every patient’s anatomy and goals are unique, eyelid surgery is best priced after a personalized consultation. We will provide a detailed cost breakdown and review available financing options if applicable.
